The NGK IMR9E-9HES is an iridium laser spark plug designed as a direct OEM-spec replacement for the Honda and Ducati models listed below.
This plug uses a projected center electrode design with a fine wire iridium tip. The iridium construction allows for a smaller center electrode diameter compared to standard copper or platinum plugs. The projected electrode position places the firing end closer to the center of the combustion chamber.
Thread size is 10mm with a threaded stud terminal configuration. Heat range is 9. Pre-set spark gap is 0.035".
Key Technology & Design
Iridium fine wire tip — Iridium's hardness allows for a smaller diameter center electrode. The reduced tip size lowers the voltage required to fire the plug.
Projected center electrode — The electrode extends into the combustion chamber rather than sitting flush with the cylinder head face. This places the firing tip closer to the center of the combustion chamber.
Taper cut ground electrode — The ground electrode is shaped to reduce its profile near the firing zone, which reduces quenching of the spark kernel at the moment of ignition.
Trivalent metal shell plating — The metal shell uses a three-layer plating process. This resists corrosion and reduces the likelihood of the plug seizing in the head during removal, particularly on aluminum cylinder heads.
5k ohm electrical resistance — The resistor construction suppresses ignition interference that can affect electronic instrumentation and sensors.
