Chain & Sprockets
- SX3 X-ring chain — Vortex's V3 2.0 chains use X-ring seals, which reduce friction.
- Drilled side plates — The chain's links are drilled, which reduces rotating mass.
- Tensile strength — The 530 SX3 has a tensile strength of 9,000 and is for street use on bikes up to 1,000cc.
- Steel front sprocket — Vortex machine their fronts from steel for concentricity and durability, with lightening holes to take out rotating mass.
- Steel rear sprocket — The 42-tooth rear is steel, Vortex part 251S-42.

Gearing — Staying Stock or Making a Change
This kit has a 16-tooth front and 42-tooth rear sprocket. If you are considering a gearing change, here is the general framework. Going one tooth smaller on the front makes a noticeable difference to low-end performance: a higher ratio gives more bottom end but a slower top speed. The effect is roughly equivalent to adding two to three teeth to the rear sprocket. Going one tooth larger on the front gives a higher top speed at the cost of some bottom end.
The chain in this kit is 116 links. Vortex's kit notes say to always verify gearing ratios.

Description:Vortex 530 SX3 Steel Chain and Sprocket Kit – Black – Honda CBR1000RR ’08–16
Product Overview
A complete drive replacement for the 2008–2016 Honda CBR1000RR: a black Vortex 530 SX3 X-ring chain, a 16-tooth steel front sprocket and a 42-tooth steel rear.
The chain comes at 116 links. Vortex supply it ready to install with a rivet-type master link. The link is pressed closed with a chain tool rather than clipped on, so if you are not set up to rivet one, have it done.
Both sprockets are steel. Steel is heavier than aluminum, but a steel sprocket is generally expected to last twice as long as the equivalent aluminum one. Vortex also make the same kit with a gold chain, part number CKG2152.
If your CBR1000RR is a 2004–2007, ask us before ordering.
