Chain & Sprockets
- Yamaha YZF-R3 2015–2026 — stock 14T front / 43T rear
- Yamaha MT-03 2020–2026 — stock 14T front / 43T rear
Product Overview
This kit replaces the complete drive chain and both sprockets on the Yamaha YZF-R3 and MT-03 at stock gearing. The front sprocket is 14 teeth, the rear is 43 teeth, and the chain is 520 pitch — matching the factory setup on both bikes. No gearing change, no chain pitch conversion. Install it and your bike rides exactly as Yamaha intended from the factory.
The kit pairs a steel front sprocket and a laser-cut steel rear sprocket with Vortex's SX3 520 X-ring chain in gold. Steel rear sprockets wear more slowly than aluminum and hold up well under regular street use, making this a practical choice for riders who prioritize longevity over weight reduction.
Key Technology & Design
- Steel front and rear sprockets — durable, long-wearing construction suited for street use
- Laser-cut rear sprocket with lightened profile
- Vortex SX3 520 X-ring chain — X-ring seal design reduces internal friction and retains lubricant more effectively than standard O-ring chains
- Rivet-style master link connector
- 112 links
- Gold chain finish

Gearing — Staying Stock or Making a Change
This kit matches the stock 14-tooth front and 43-tooth rear on both the YZF-R3 and MT-03. Installing it keeps your bike at factory stock gearing.
If you are considering a gearing change, here is the general framework. Going one tooth smaller on the front shortens gearing — quicker acceleration, higher RPM at highway speeds, reduced top speed. The effect is roughly equivalent to adding two to three teeth to the rear sprocket. Going one tooth larger on the front lengthens gearing — lower cruise RPM, softer pull from a stop.
Stock gearing on these bikes is well matched for general street use. Neither direction is right or wrong — it depends on how and where you ride.
