Product Overview

This is a SuperSprox 16-tooth 525-pitch front sprocket for the Yamaha YZF-R6, YZF-R6 Race, and YZF-R6S. All three models run a 16-tooth front sprocket stock on 525-pitch chain — this sprocket is a direct replacement at stock tooth count and stock chain pitch. No gearing change, no chain pitch change. Install it and you are back to factory spec.

The 2006–2020 street R6 and the 2021–present track-only R6 Race both use the same countershaft interface, the same 16T front, and the same 525 chain. This sprocket fits the full run of both variants. The R6S (2006–2010) shares the same drivetrain setup and fits as well.

Key Technology & Design

SuperSprox makes this sprocket from SCM-435 carbon steel with a surface-hardened layer approximately 0.5mm deep. The body is lightened with radial holes to reduce rotating weight. Black finish.

Gearing — Staying Stock or Making a Change

This sprocket matches the stock 16-tooth front on the R6 across all generations. Installing it keeps your bike at factory stock gearing.

If you are considering a gearing change, here is the general framework. Going one tooth smaller on the front shortens gearing — quicker acceleration, higher RPM at highway speeds, reduced top speed. The effect is roughly equivalent to adding two to three teeth to the rear sprocket. Going one tooth larger lengthens gearing — lower cruise RPM, softer pull from a stop.

Stock gearing on these bikes is well matched for general street use. Neither direction is right or wrong — it depends on how and where you ride.
