JT Sprockets 15-Tooth 520 Rubber-Cushioned Front Sprocket — Honda CBR500R / CB500F

Main Fitment:

  • 2013–Present Honda CBR500R — stock front sprocket (15T)
  • 2013–Present Honda CB500F — stock front sprocket (15T)

Additional fitment at the bottom.

Product Overview

This is a JT Sprockets 15-tooth 520-pitch front sprocket with integrated rubber noise-dampening cushion for the Honda CBR500R and CB500F. Both bikes run a 15-tooth front sprocket stock with 520-pitch chain throughout their entire production run. This is a direct stock replacement — no gearing change, no chain change required.

The rubber cushion built into this sprocket absorbs chain impact on the teeth, reducing the mechanical noise that develops as a chain and sprocket wear in together. Honda and other major Japanese manufacturers have used this design approach on production bikes since the early 1990s. For street riders who keep their bikes on stock or near-stock gearing and want a quiet, smooth drivetrain, this is the practical choice over a standard bare-steel sprocket.

Key Technology & Design

JT makes this sprocket from SCM415 chromoly steel alloy, heat-treated and bead-blasted to reduce surface tension. The rubber cushion is bonded into the sprocket body between the spline hub and the outer tooth ring, dampening the shock load each chain link transfers to the sprocket teeth. Natural/black finish.

Gearing — Staying Stock or Making a Change

This sprocket matches the stock 15-tooth front on the CBR500R and CB500F. Installing it keeps your bike at factory stock gearing.

If you are considering a gearing change, here is the general framework. Going one tooth smaller on the front shortens gearing — quicker acceleration, higher RPM at speed, reduced top speed. The effect is roughly equivalent to adding two to three teeth to the rear sprocket. Going one tooth larger lengthens gearing — lower RPM at cruise, softer pull from a stop.

Stock gearing on these bikes is well matched for general street use. Neither direction is right or wrong — it depends on how and where you ride.
