Helmets
- A polymer-blend shell whose thickness varies by area, which Alpinestars say balances impact protection against weight. The shell and the EPS liner are both sized to each helmet size.
Rotational impact protection
- The EPS liner's inner shape and coating work with a special surface on the comfort liner. Alpinestars state this patented combination reduces the rotational acceleration passed to the rider's head in an oblique impact.
Multi-density liner
- Six EPS/EPP pieces in five densities, placed where the impact absorption is needed.
Peak release
- Alpinestars' patented release lets the peak break away at a set force in a crash, which they say reduces the load on the rider's neck.
Ventilation
- Ten inlets and seven exhaust ports.
Emergency Release System
- The cheek pads can be pulled out with the helmet still on, so it can be removed more safely after a crash.
Retention
- 25 mm soft textile chin strap with stainless steel D-rings.
Interior
- 3D-contoured, removable cheek pads with hydration tube loops built in. The comfort liner uses recycled materials. Crown and cheek pads in other thicknesses are available from Alpinestars as spare parts for tuning the fit.

Description:Alpinestars SM3 Solid Helmet – White Gloss
Product Overview
The SM3 is Alpinestars’ off-road helmet for motocross, enduro and trail riding, and the Solid is the plain-colour version, here in gloss white. It is an off-road design: it has a peak and an open eye port, with no face shield, and is worn with goggles, which are sold separately. If you ride on the street and want a helmet with a face shield, this is not that helmet.
Alpinestars certify the SM3 to both DOT and ECE 22.06.
The shell is thermo-injected thermoplastic, made in varying thicknesses across the helmet. Alpinestars also test the chin area to an in-house standard that they describe as harder than the homologation test, and they thickened the shell and reworked the structure at the chin to pass it.
Key Technology & Design

Multi-density liner
- Six EPS/EPP pieces in five densities, placed where the impact absorption is needed.
Peak release
- Alpinestars’ patented release lets the peak break away at a set force in a crash, which they say reduces the load on the rider’s neck.
