This is BS Battery's sealed AGM battery in the YTZ8V case — the tall, narrow case Yamaha's YZF-R3 has run from the factory since 2015, and the one Honda moved the CBR500R into for 2019. BS rates it at 12 volts, 7 amp-hours at the ten-hour rate, 7.4 amp-hours at the twenty-hour rate and 120 cold cranking amps, in a case measuring 113 x 70 x 130 mm (4.45" x 2.76" x 5.12"), at 2.35 kg (5.18 lb).
It is factory activated. The acid is already in it, it has been charged, and the case is sealed at the factory, so there is no acid pack to pour and no activation step at your end. BS's own words for it are plug and play.
Sealed AGM means maintenance-free in the literal sense. BS describes the design as VRLA — valve regulated lead acid — with the electrolyte held in a glass fibre mat, so there are no cells to open and no water to add for the life of the battery.
A battery is matched to a bike by case size, terminal layout and polarity rather than by model name, which is why one part number covers the list below. On this battery Parts Unlimited puts the positive terminal at the right front and the negative at the left front. If your CBR500R is a 2013–2018, it takes the larger YTZ10S case, not this one.
We also carry the Parts Unlimited house-brand YTZ8V in the same case for less.
Key Technology & Design
Factory activated
Filled, charged and sealed at the factory. It arrives ready to install, with no acid to handle.
Absorbed glass mat construction
The electrolyte is held in a glass fibre mat rather than sitting loose in the case.
Spill-proof and multi-position
BS states the case is factory sealed and spill-proof, and that the battery can be mounted at angles up to 90 degrees.
Maintenance free
A VRLA design with nothing to top up over the life of the battery.
Low self-discharge
BS states a low discharge rate and extended cycle life.
